Fishing in the Seychelles

The Seychelles, located in the eastern Indian Ocean, consists of 41 spectacular granite islands and 74 sparkling sand cays and out-of-the-way atolls. There are more than 100 atolls and islands, which are scattered over a vast area. These islands are a mixture of spectacular, lush, mountainous granite outcroppings and low lying atolls. The atolls are typical of coral atolls elsewhere in the world, such as the Turneffe Islands in Belize and Los Roques in Venezuela.

The Seychelles is a wonderful destination for those that want a holiday away from it all and has gained a world-wide reputation for its luxury accommodation and beach getaways. However, this part of the world has also become a mecca for the saltwater fisherman.

There are now two outstanding operations to choose from when travelling to this part of the world. Desroches Island Fly Fishing Adventures and the world famous Alphonse Island Resort and St Francois atoll. Both offer the chance to live in unparalleled comfort and fish some of the most pristine and well-protected flats in the world.

One of the main attractions of fishing in the Seychelles is not only the fact that it is an amazing bonefishery but that there is an extraordinary variety of other species that can be caught on the fly. The guides here pioneered fishing for milkfish and with five different species of trevally, triggerfish and palometto to fish for this is a destination for all those wishing to expand their range of species landed on a fly.

Lying only four degrees south of the equator, the Seychelles has a stable climate thereby allowing excellent conditions for fishing. The Seychelles is outstandingly beautiful, has exceptional accommodation and the fishing is some of the best in the world.
