El Palomar

El Palomar is the Rolls Royce of Spanish partridge shooting as far as the all round experience is concerned. The lodge is situated in La Mancha 2.5 hours by car south east of Madrid in the heart of the 3.5 thousand hectare estate you will be shooting over. The estate is a family owned, fully functional farm specialising in the breeding of fighting bulls.  The magnificent old house, the walls of trophies, and private bull ring, all contribute to the feeling of staying at a palace rather than a shooting lodge.

In keeping with the regal atmosphere of the house, the shooting is of the traditional Spanish variety. The birds tend to hug the contours in flight, rather than being pushed off cliffs. These birds come low and fast straight towards you, presenting an entirely different challenge. Speed is of the essence here, with very little warning of their arrival, and very little time to react. The anticipation is nerve jangling to say the least! Many people compare them with driven grouse in Scotland, without the cold weather and risk of cancellation!

Clothing
Lightweight layered clothing – it can be cool first thing before warming up. Traditional shooting clothing is the norm but not essential. Eveningwear can be as formal or informal as the group would like.

Tips
Remember sunglasses. Make sure you have a good lockable travel gun case. Remember to take eye and ear protection.
