El Pescador (Ambergris Caye)
El Pescador, on Ambergris Caye, is surrounded by lush palm trees on a beautiful white beach. A family-run operation, it is a perfect choice for those seeking a fishing lodge that has comfortable accommodation, coupled with a relaxed atmosphere and a variety of non-fishing activities.
The gracious colonial-style lodge is right on the beach, facing the sea, surrounded by fragrant tropical flowering plants and the whisper of shady palms. Not only will you find the serenity and relaxation you are looking for, you will have the convenience of being within walking distance of San Pedro Town and its shops, restaurants, bars and night spots should you want them. There are fourteen spacious guest rooms in the main lodge, each face the sea and have ensuite bathroom facilities, overhead fans and air-conditioning. El Pescador also has eight villas adjacent to the lodge, with stunning views to the ocean and the Belize Barrier Reef. The one, two or three-bedroom villas enable you to perfectly match your individual needs, while ensuring your complete privacy.
Away from the comforts of the lodge, fishermen will find that tarpon and bonefish are the main targets at El Pescador. However, with 400 miles of productive flats and reefs surrounding Ambergris Caye, a host of other species is available including permit, barracuda, snook and jacks as well as a variety of other reef species. Fishing is done from the bow of stable and comfortable pangas, the boat of choice in Belizean waters, with experienced English-speaking guides. The waters of El Pescador have classic tarpon flats, and at certain times of the year (usually June to September) sight casting can be exceptional for tarpon upto 100 lbs.
However this is not just a fishing destination, El Pescador is ideal for non-fishing or part-time fishing guests. Diving, snorkelling, swimming, sailing and tours of the Mayan ruins are just a few of the attractions available on Ambergris Caye and the mainland.

Tackle and Kit
We would recommend a 9ft single-handed 8 weight rod for bonefish, a 9ft single-handed 9 weight rod for permit and a heavier 9ft 10-11 weight rod for tarpon and barracuda. All rods should be rigged with good saltwater reels with reliable disc drags. Floating and intermediate clear tipped weight-forward lines, a selection of bonefish and tarpon leaders, flies, long-nosed pliers and polarised sunglasses. Light spinning tackle.
Clothing
Lightweight long sleeved shirts and trousers, wading shoes, sunscreen and peaked hat. We would also recommend a light waterproof spray jacket and a good waterproof tackle bag that can be stowed aboard your panga.
