Flamingo Bay Pacific Charters accesses two main areas on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica namely Quepos and Flamingo Beach depending on the time of year and the movement of bait fish. The 'hot-spot' for the winter months is Quepos. Not only has it become a great destination for non fishers it has also become the most important sport fishing centre in the country and is a sailfish mecca, although blue marlin are frequently raised as well. There is typically a 12-20 mile run to the bluewater where most of the billfish action is encountered, not to mention dorado, wahoo and tuna. Inshore sport includes roosterfish, jacks, mackerel and cubera snapper.

Accommodation in Quepos is hotel based and there is a plethora of hotels from which to choose to meet your wishes and budget. None are more than a 20 minute drive from the dock. Quepos is also one of the few destinations where you can combine excellent fishing with an array of non-fishing activities making it ideal for non-fishing partners and families. Activities include jungle canopy tours, riding, white-water rafting, boat tours, sea kayaking, snorkelling and walking tours in nearby national parks and wildlife reserves.

Please note that space in Quepos gets booked up very quickly indeed so to ensure the best boats and hotel accommodation please look at planning well in advance.

Rates vary depending on the level of accommodations and length of stay, number of fishing days, boat size, number of fishermen sharing a charter boat, private charter vs. commercial flights, and any non-fishing tours that may be added on. Daily fishing charters include transfers, fishing on a tournament-rigged sportfishing boat with captain and mate, tackle (some boats can provide fly fishing gear), bait, lunch, fresh fruit, ice cold beer and soft drinks.

Tackle and Kit
We would recommend a 9ft single-handed 12-15 weight rod for sail fish, a 9ft single-handed 10-11 weight rod for tuna, dorado and roosterfish. All rods should be rigged with a highly corrosion resistant reel with a durable and smooth drag system, which holds a large line and backing capacity. High density shooting heads to match recommended rod weights for the sailfish with lighter weight shooting heads for smaller species, a selection of bluewater flies, poppers and polarised sunglasses.

Clothing
Lightweight long sleeved shirts and trousers, deck shoes, sunscreen and hat. We would also recommend a light waterproof spray jacket.
