Set some five hours north of the town of El Calafate in the province of Santa-Cruz in Argentina, Laguna Verde offers varied fishing opportunities. From fishing on the world renowned Jurassic Lake (Lago Strobel), where they are strategically located to access ‘Monster-Bay’, where most of the larger fish are caught - and have reached weights of over 30 lbs - through to the smaller lakes that hold extremely hard fighting, wild rainbows that do reach double figures with the closest lake being just a few metres from the extremely comfortable hard-standing lodge.
If this was not enough, Laguna Verde also offers some of the finest river fishing for wild rainbows in the world. The river holds an amazing head of fish, where mass catches are commonplace, and fish into double figures are not uncommon.
The programme at Laguna Verde is extremely flexible and is largely dictated by the angler’s requirements or preferences. Fancy taking a six-day trip specimen hunting on Jurassic Lake? No problem. Fancy taking it one day at a time and deciding in the morning how each day will unfold? Again, no problem. Laguna Verde encapsulates and represents the very best in trout fishing in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The fish are truly impressive!

Several flight options exist from the UK, many of which utilise major european cities such as Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Frankfurt as a hub with carriers such as Air France, Iberia, Lufthansa all providing connecting flights to Buenos Aires from the UK. British Airways offers a flight from Heathrow that goes via Sao Paulo in Brazil, where you stay on the plane, and this is the preferred route for the majority of our passengers. Tackle and kit
9-10ft single-handed #7-9 weight rods for Lago Strobel and the other lakes present on Laguna Verde Estancia. Rarely will anything other than floating or intermediate lines be required for the lakes, but a set of polyleaders are also recommended. For the river a 9ft #4 is ideal, and maximises sport - you may even go to 7ft for #3 for even more action. However, you may use the rod you brought for the lakes, should you wish to limit the tackle you bring. Strong leaders (8lbs+) - these fish are not leader shy, flies, chest waders, wading jacket, polarised sunglasses, a stripping basket is essential. Flies are available from the guides. In addition, we have visited the lodge and fished these waters, so please contact us during your booking for detailed tips and recommendations for the Strobel etc.
Clothing
The weather can be extremely changeable especially on Lago Strobel, so be prepared for all conditions. We would recommend layered comfortable clothing that can be added to, or shed, depending on the prevailing conditions. Waders are not essential but we would advise bringing waders of some description. Windbreaker jackets and waterproof coats are essential.
