There have been considerable developments at Las Beatas since we organised our first shooting party with Jesus Muela 25 years ago. Jesus Alberto has taken over from his father in the running of the shoot and expanded it considerably to include a new estancia at La Cuesta, which has become widely known for the extreme height of the birds. La Cuesta is located not far from the town of Montiel, while Hacienda Las Beatas is located close to Villahermosa, both in the province of Ciudad Real. Both lodges are well appointed and can accommodate even the largest of shooting parties.
Shoot days normally consist of five drives which are run with military precision, while the guns experience the more relaxed side of shooting in Spain. A break for tapas in the morning is followed by lunch either on the shoot, or back at the lodge before the afternoon drives. Typically relaxed the day fisnishes with plenty of time to relax with a drink, or enjoy a siesta before dinner.
La Cuesta is famous for its stratospheric, plentiful partridge, but birds to suit all abilities can be presented between the two estates. The shoot now covers over 60,000 hectares, enabling Jesus Alberto to present a wide variety of birds. If you are looking for extreme, jaw droppingly high partridges, nowhere in Spain, or anywhere else for that matter, comes close to showing such consistently high birds as La Cuesta, in such a relaxed atmosphere, while Las Beatas caters perfectly for those that want to have a crack at the high ones, but like a few confidence boosters along the way!
The British desire for shooting high partridge is sometimes frowned upon in Spain, where local shooters prefer the more traditional aspect of partridge shooting. Jesus Alberto however has shunned tradition and devloped his shoot accordingly to provide the ultimate high partridge shoot.
