Posada Mediterraneo
Los Roques is a bonefishing paradise and, in many respects, remains one of the best kept secrets in saltwater fishing. Often thought of as the "Christmas Island of the Caribbean" because of the predominance of wading and the good average-size fish, Los Roques is a world-class destination in its own right. This is varied and interesting fishing complemented by the prolific birdlife, good lodging, and an unforgettable tranquil island atmosphere.
Owned by Elena Battani, the charming Posada Mediterraneo is located on el Gran Roque just a few feet from the ocean and fishes the same water as Sight Cast. The airy feel of the Posada Mediterraneo beckons one to come and enjoy its simple and relaxed elegance. The Mediterraneo caters to an intimate-size group with only five standard rooms and one suite, all with private safe, plasma TV with cable, and en suite bathroom with shower. Guests relish the air conditioning in each room after a day in the Caribbean sun and their hot water shower. The lodge has wi-fi as well as a computer in the lobby for guests' use for a limited time each day. Dinners, prepared by their chef who takes pride in his presentation and quality, are served under the starlit skies on the enchanting roof top terrace.
Anglers are thrilled with the complete package - a lodge with an allure of its own, delicious meals, superb guides and productive flats teeming with big bonefish. Oswald Valerio, a long-tenured guide for Pez Raton, is now managing the fishing programme on-site at Mediterraneo and also acts as head guide. With his quick smile, affable demeanour, osprey-like tendencies on the flats, Oswald ranks as one of the all time best guides with whom Frontiers' staff have fished.
Elena’s reputation as an outstanding host continues to grow with our fishermen. Many return with their non-fishing companions, confident they will also enjoy this delightful posada on this amazing island.

Tackle and Kit
We would recommend a 9ft single-handed 8 weight rod for bonefish, a 9ft single-handed 9 weight rod for permit, snook and jacks, and a heavier 9ft 10-11 weight rod for tarpon and barracuda. All rods should be rigged with good saltwater reels with reliable disc drags. Floating and intermediate clear tipped weight-forward lines, a selection of bonefish and tarpon leaders, flies, long-nosed pliers and polarised sunglasses. Light spinning tackle.
Clothing
Lightweight long-sleeved shirts and trousers, wading shoes, sunscreen and a peaked hat. We would also recommend a light waterproof spray jacket and a good waterproof tackle bag that can be stowed aboard your panga.
