Shooting in Merlo

Juan Pedro Navarro's Feather Hunting Argentina is an outstanding year-round combination of pigeon and dove shooting near the town of Merlo in San Luis Province. Merlo shoots offer decoyed pigeons as well as volume dove shooting. Seasonal walked up perdiz shooting over pointers is also available from May to July in the foothills and pasturelands surrounding this picturesque community and Merlo is unique in that it is the only region of Argentina to offer four different species of perdiz, or tinamou, in one area. Utilizing a magnificent mountainside chalet, guests are offered private rooms while a resident chef and staff prepare outstanding meals. Lunches are frequently enjoyed at excellent local restaurants or with a traditional asado in the field.

With plenty of marvelous activities surrounding Merlo, Feather Hunting Argentina is a perfect destination for a group of guns or a combination of guns and their non-shooting companions. Southwest of Cordoba, Merlo nestles in the beautiful shadows of 5,000-ft peaks where the Conlara Valley plays host to a guns perfect triangle: at one point, a dove resource that rivals any in Argentina or elsewhere; at the second, decoyed pigeon shooting like you've only dreamed of; and at the final point, exciting perdiz over pointers in lush agricultural valleys. You can shoot doves all day here or mix morning doves with afternoon pigeons or seasonal perdiz.

Shooting was closed in Merlo for many years, however during the recent seasons it has been allowed and encouraged in the province of San Luis and Feather Hunting Argentina was the original operator in the region. To give you an idea of the populations of eared dove and spot-winged pigeon in the area now, it is estimated that 100 dove will pass over your head at up to 35 yards – every minute! Just imagine. Pigeons are decoyed using sophisticated blinds and decoys in sorghum and peanut fields grown exclusively by Feather Hunting Argentina.
