The Golden Grove - River Towy

The golden-grove water on the river towy, West-Wales, represents the finest sea-trout fishing in europe with few, if any, rivals. With some 14 miles of private and exclusive double bank fishing on the prime and bountiful middle reaches of the towy the golden-grove really raises the bar offering anglers fishing in relative solitude nestled in beautiful, unspoilt surroundings. Further to that, with the pedigree of the towy for producing large sea-trout, which have already been recorded over 21lbs on the golden-grove waters (2008), this amalgamates into crowning the golden-grove fishery as 'the' place to target and catch sea-trout. In addition to the sea-trout, the towy also gets a sizeable run of salmon that are well worth targeting, especially in the latter weeks of the season, with the holding waters of the middle reaches that golden-grove own being the ideal place to target the runs.

Fishing Prices on Golden Grove for the 2010 season (please note: these are the same prices offered by the estate itself i.e. you will not be overcharged or charged extra by booking through us):

April: £58.75 per rod per day (24hrs), or £235 for a beat that will accommodate 5 rods (equating to £47 per rod).

May 1st - 17th: £94 per rod per day (24hrs), or £411.25 for a beat that will accommodate 5 rods (equating to £82.25 per rod).

May 18th - Aug 16th: £117.50 per rod per day (24hrs), or £528.75 for a beat that will accommodate 5 rods (equating to £105.75 per rod).

Aug 17th - Sep 13th: £94 per rod per day (24hrs), or £411.25 for a beat that will accommodate 5 rods (equating to £82.25 per rod).

Sep 14th - Oct 17th: £105.75 per rod per day (24hrs), or £470 for a beat that will accommodate 5 rods (equating to £94 per rod).

The Golden Grove fishery consists of 4 beats, each carrying its own and individual character. We have extensive knowledge of all these beats, and fish them regularly, being able to best advise you on where to fish when and what may suit you best.

The Golden Grove - River Towy

Location
Easily reached from most of the UK with the M4 (later A48) taking you directly to Carmarthen - the estuarine section of the Towy. The Towy flows from mid Wales and empties into the sea in South-West Wales. The middle reaches and the Golden-Grove is some 15 minutes drive from Carmarthen on the A40 Llandeilo road.

Species
Sea trout and salmon. Some excellent trout fishing can also be had.

April - October

Tackle and kit
For daytime sea trout fishing; spin fishing is allowed if conditions dictate. At such times rapalas, flying c's and mepps in various sizes and colours is the order of the day. Following a spate daytime fly-fishing can be fantastic. Flies such; squirrel blue & silver, stoats tail, mallard and claret etc. should be used. A floating or intermediate line with a set of polyleaders is all that's required.

For night-time sea trout fishing; a range of lines should be carried from floating through to medium and even fast sinkers. Leader material should be 10lbs as a minimum. Flies should include; longshank singles, aluminium copper tubes, stringers, snake flies, surface lures etc. Towy sea-trout are very fond of patterns that have yellow included. A 10ft #8 rod is the perfect companion for the sea trout. However, 12-13ft double-handers can be fun during the daytime.

A 12-14ft double-hander is ideal for the salmon.   

Chest waders are highly recommended, wading jacket, safety glasses sunglasses.

Clothing
The weather can be changeable, so be prepared for all conditions especially the occassional shower. we would recommend layered comfortable clothing that can be added to, or shed, depending on the prevailing conditions.
