This could be a description of any well-run small resort, but this is Mangrove Cay Club and it is located in the middle of one of the richest flats fishing resources in all of the Bahamas.

Mangrove Cay Club sits just inside the middle bight on Central Andros Island’s eastern shore, affording access to about half of the entire island’s premier flats, including those of the north, middle and south bights, as well as the famed and remote west side. Many days guides will make the run to the west given the right weather conditions and tides, but often some of the best fishing can be found within minutes of leaving the dock each morning. Realistically a fisherman with average skills can expect to catch several fish in the 3 lb range each day and on most days there will be opportunities to present a fly to fish much larger, often in the double-figures, after all, Andros has earned its reputation as a big-fish resource.

Mangrove Cay Club have set a standard of performance for bonefish lodges that is virtually unsurpassed. They have assembled a cohesive, competent and professional guide staff that is always well prepared to give you a great day on the water. The warm and personable lodge staff provides you with clean, comfortable rooms in which to relax, and service that is both courteous and genuine in friendliness. You will find an overall atmosphere at the lodge that is conducive to relaxation and camaraderie.

The lodge also has a 26-ft power catamaran. This boat can be used to ferry fishermen to wadeable flats to the south on those days when the weather does not allow safe or comfortable travel in the skiffs, salvaging what otherwise might be a day of dominoes and paperback novels.

Deposit
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required within 10 days of making a reservation to secure a reservation. Final payment is due 90 days prior to departure; participants are responsible for total land costs and no refund will be made unless a replacement is found. No refund can be made for unused land arrangements or fishing time lost due to inclement weather. The lodge reserves the right to add a fuel surcharge should fuel prices increase between the time of booking and the time of the trip. Receipt of deposit and/or final payment is acknowledgment that registrant has read and accepts the cancellation/refund and responsibility clauses. We strongly recommend trip cancellation insurance; information will be sent with your deposit invoice.

Visa Requirements for UK Citizens
No visa requirement if travelling direct from UK to Bahamas.
If entering or exiting via US, an ESTA application for 90-day US visa waiver is required prior to travel.

Documents Required
A passport that is valid for six months after the last day of your trip is required.

Species
Primarily bonefish, some tarpon, permit, barracuda and pelagic species depending on the time of year that you are travelling.

Tackle and Kit
We would recommend a 9ft single-handed 8 weight rod for bonefish, a 9ft single-handed 9 weight rod for permit and a heavier 9ft 10-11 weight rod for tarpon and barracuda. All rods should be rigged with good saltwater reels with reliable disc drags. Floating and intermediate clear tipped weight-forward lines, a selection of bonefish and tarpon leaders, flies, long-nosed pliers and polarised sunglasses. Light spinning tackle.

Clothing
Lightweight long sleeved shirts and trousers, wading shoes, sunscreen and peaked hat. We would also recommend a light waterproof spray jacket and a good waterproof tackle bag that can be stowed aboard your skiff.
