Mission Lodge

Mission Lodge is located on the shores of Lake Aleknagik in the heart of the world famous Bristol Bay region of south-west Alaska. For most people, it is not possible to visit Mission Lodge just once. With every last detail perfected, it lures people back year after year.

This is the best testimony we can provide about the quality of their fishing programme, accommodation and service. Each night, you will meet with your guide to determine what type of fishing interests you for the next day. Flexibility is their hallmark. The following morning you will board one of the floatplanes and fly to your designated water. Should the weather close in and stop you from flying, which is a very rare occurrence (the lodge only looses three days of fishing a season), there is plenty of fishing a short boat ride away so you do not loose any of that valuable fishing time.

The pure beauty of south-west Alaska is reason enough to visit, but to avid fishermen the world over, the Bristol Bay area is synonymous with world-class sport fishing. Starting in June and continuing through September, this region teems with all five species of Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char, dolly varden, arctic grayling, lake trout and northern pike. From trophy rainbows to tackle busting kings, Mission Lodge is perfectly located to fulfill all of your fishing dreams.

The lodge can host up to 24 people at any one time but seldom do they allow more than 20 in a week. It is one of the few lodges that boast single rooms, which are highly prized and rare for Alaska. Not all have ensuite facilities, but with large bathrooms just down the hall it is small price to pay not to have to hear your fishing partner snore all night! Mission Lodge is a perfect venue for families, individuals and small groups. Add to the mix a number of other special touches including a wood-fired sauna, hot tub, massage therapist, fully-stocked bar and top-notch fishing equipment and you have the perfect fishing destination.

Weeks at Mission Lodge run from a Friday to Friday.

2013 Package Rate:

$7,700 per person per week (plus tax) from Dillingham. Partial weeks are available upon request.

Price includes:
•    Full board and accommodation for seven nights at Mission Lodge based on single occupancy.
•    Six days guided fishing with two fishermen to each guide.
•    Transport on the river by float plane and jet boat dependent on your wishes.
•    All alcoholic and soft drinks.
•    Ground transfer from Dillingham airport to the Lodge.
•    All equipment rods, reels, flies, lures, waders etc. as requested.
•    Aleknagik Town Tax and Bed tax

Price does not include:
•    International Flights.
•    Internal flights from Anchorage to Dillingham.
•    Accommodation in Anchorage.
•    King Salmon stamp ($30).
•    Alaskan visitors fishing licence
•    Gratuities to the house staff and fishing guides.
•    Items of a personal nature.

Deposit
If it is necessary for you to cancel, the lodge will try to arrange substitute dates. If trip cancellations are received prior to the final payment date but substitute dates are not possible, deposits will be returned less a fee of $500 per trip. Trip cancellations after the final payment date in which vacancy cannot be filled will be charged a cancellation fee of up to one hundred percent (100%) of package price.  

Special Notes:
Please note that you will need to arrive in Dillingham to meet up with the group transfer to the lodge.  If booking your own flights, please check with us before confirming them.  Arrival at the wrong time may involve private charters, which will be at an additional cost.

Visa Requirements for UK Citizens
You will need to register for a 90-day US Visa Waiver under the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA)  prior to departure. This is an online registration and will be valid for two years or until the date on which your passport expires, which ever comes first.

Species
The five species of Pacific salmon: chinook (King), sockeye, coho (silver), pink and chum; rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic char, Arctic grayling, northern pike, and lake trout.

Tackle and Kit
We would recommend a 9ft single-handed 8-9 weight rod with varying sink-tip lines for most of the salmon. If you are going for the big Chinook salmon then we suggest also taking a 12-14ft double-handed 9-10 weight rod with a multi-tip line that has fast sink tips or a shooting head system. For the other species use a 9ft single-handed 5-8 weight rod with floating line, 5-30lb leader material, flies, chest waders, waterproof jacket, lifejacket, collapsible wading stick, insect repellent and polarised sunglasses.

Clothing
Alaska has a variable climate and you should dress with comfortable layers that can be shed or put on accordingly. June and July are generally warm, by August and September the weather can be cooler with frosts in the mornings and evenings. Dress code at all the lodges is informal.
