Riverview Lodge is a unique brown trout fly fishing lodge located at Hamner Springs in the South Island of New Zealand. Specializing in accommodating smaller groups for first-rate angling, owner/operator John Gemmell has 30+ years of experience fishing and hunting in the area and has secured access to productive waters. Along with his wife Robin and their associates, John does everything possible to ensure clients have a wonderful New Zealand experience while enjoying very comfortable accommodations complemented with a very high standard of cuisine.
Riverview is located in the heartland of large trophy brown trout waters. Fly fishing is done on a daily basis with experienced, professional guides to a variety of locations. Travelling by vehicle or helicopter ensures an exciting day in beautiful remote scenery. Browns in the area average 5 lbs.
The lodge is nestled on a plateau overlooking the beautiful Hanmer Springs Valley and offers 5 bedrooms for guests, each with its own modern private bathroom. Guests also enjoy large lounge areas, a stone log fire, pool room and free Wi-Fi. The food is very well-prepared and presented.
Bring a 6-wt. fly rod, along with rubber-soled wading boots (felt-soled boots are not allowed in New Zealand). In most cases, the lodge can provide all flies, leaders and any equipment needed. Quality raingear and polarized glasses are essential. Dress in layers; we suggest neutral colors.
The comfortable lodge with panoramic views is a 90-minute drive from Christchurch International Airport. There is no set itinerary at Riverview, but we suggest a minimum 4-night/3-day stay for anglers. The guides work hard with you to achieve that memory of hooking a "once in a life time" trophy fish. For non-fishers, Hanmer Springs is one of New Zealand’s most popular Spa Resort towns. Here you can enjoy the famous Thermal Pool, full body massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, etc., or if you prefer, horse trekking, golf, jet boating, bungy jumping and retail shopping are close-by.
