Alaska

Unmatched freshwater fishing for salmon and native rainbows, char, and grayling. Saltwater fishing for Halibut, Salmon, Rockfish, and Lingcod. Guided big game hunting for brown and black bears, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep.

Saltwater: More than 30 species occur in Alaska's coastal waters, and about a dozen are commonly taken in Alaska sport fisheries, including Halibut, Ling Cod, Yelloweye, and multiple species of rockfish. Halibut may be the true prized fish growing to immense barn door size. Mooch or troll for all salmon species in comfortable heated cabin cruisers. Southeast Alaska is an angler’s paradise come true. When compared to other fisheries around the world, one could say it’s incomparable in diversity and abundance. Unlike warm water fisheries, the fish you catch here are all table-fish you may take home and enjoy with family and friends. The areas we target are within short traveling distance from Ketchikan. We fish the protected inlets, fjords and bays around the immediate area. Experience the rugged temperate rainforest of the spectacular inside passage, dotted with islands and rocky outcrops providing excellent saltwater fishing. We fish for Steelhead in freshwater rivers in April/May and have options to do both fresh and saltwater from one lodge.

Freshwater: Alaska is truly one of the last Frontiers for purely wild fish. Seasonal prolific runs fill the rivers with large volumes of salmon making their way to their spawning grounds and eager for the fly. The season kicks off in April with wild steelhead fishing in southeast Alaska. The mighty king salmon enters the rivers in mid-June to mid-July; by July 4, the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world are in full swing across the state. Hard fighting chum salmon abound in the same time period up until mid-August. The aggressive silver salmon arrives in early August and runs through the end of September and will readily hammer top-water patterns. Wild rainbow trout are available from ice-out and a double-digit trout is a distinct possibility at any date in the season. Arctic char, grayling, sheefish, and Northern Pike round out the menu of freshwater opportunities. For the salt fisherman, Halibut, Rockfish, and salmon can be taken offshore May to September. Combine a fishing trip with a tour of Denali, an exclusive Uncruise or bear photography expedition and the gold rush state will definitely top the list for a return visit.

Big Game Hunting: Stephan Lake Lodge provides high quality and unique big game trophy hunts in Alaska’s spectacular Talkeetna Mountains, Susitna River drainage, and Game Management Units 13E & 14. All hunts are 1X1 with an experienced guide and fully outfitted for your comfort and safety. Dall Sheep, Grizzly / Brown Bear, Black Bear, Predator hunts, Caribou, seasonal duck hunting (Sept. 1 opener). Unique to Stephan Lake Lodge is their series of outlying cabins. These rustic log cabins are warm, dry, and comfortable. They form a loop through the Alaskan wilderness and are a comfortable day’s walk from each other. Their guides and staff know this country well and share their love and respect for it. You will receive the personal attention you deserve and a wilderness experience you will never forget. Add some seasonal fishing for the total Alaska experience.
