Alphonse & Cosmoledo - December 2020

Cosmoledo - 12th to 19th December 2020

Spring tides for week three brought huge excitement for the guests who had already completed one week on Cosmoledo Atoll. With lots of fish seen over the neaps, guests and guides were preparing for a great week.

It was a new experience and a first time out on Cosmoledo for two of the guests. Lance and Graham had a week that will definitely have them coming back. Lance landing his personal best GT of 96 cm and Graham landing multiple GTs over 80 cm. The weather didn’t really play its part for the week making a few species like bones and triggers tough to target in the low light, windy and rainy conditions. Despite the complicated array of weather, Justin and Matt managed Flats Slams through the week with triggers, bones and GTs for the day. Lance had a day to remember with Serge where he managed to land a magical 64 cm permit a few GTs and some bonefish for the day.

Richard had some harsh luck with two big GTs getting away, one on a hook pull and one fish going through the 130 lbs leader. He pushed on and mid-week managed a beautiful 96 cm GT.

The week was as predicted with large numbers of fish pushing up with rays, big fish in the channels and pancakes and a wide variety of species to be targeted.

Alphonse - 12th to 19th December 2020

A few eager anglers descended onto the shores of Alphonse Island this week. The weather was very good over the week. The spring tides allowed anglers to have some amazing shots at the Big 5. The fishing was boundless for anglers willing to put in the effort and make shots at fish.

Paul has been fishing with us for the last two weeks. Paul is an Alphonse fishing legend having fished St Francois for the last 22 years. Paul managed to land 50 bonefish, 10 bluefin trevally and four very nicely sized GTs measuring 60 cm, 65 cm, 70 cm and 75 cm throughout his trip. We look forward to seeing the Legendary Paul next year again.

Throughout the week anglers did very well with bonefish. The anglers landed 178 bonefish over the week with Murray landing the largest bone of the week measuring a massive 63 cm. The Petrick family tried their hand at fly fishing for the first time. All four family members caught their first bonefish in huge quantities. Mr Leart also landed his first GT measuring in at 65 cm.

Adam who is a young but very eager angler has been practicing his casting. Adam worked hard over the week and landed his very first GT on the fly. Adam was looking for permit when a GT was spotted sitting on top of a stingray. Adam made the shot and landed a nicely sized 72 cm GT. Murray also landed a fantastic Flats Slam on day six. Murray landed a 75 cm GT, a nicely sized trigger and a massive 63 cm bonefish.

Another fantastic week was spent at Alphonse Island fishing the St Francois Atoll. Memories were made and bonds were formed that will last a lifetime. Stay tuned for next week’s report as we are sure you won’t want to miss it.

Alphonse - 19th to 27th December 2020

Father Christmas delivered some excellent fishing to Alphonse and St Francois Atoll over the week. Anglers have been in high Christmas spirits with some brilliant catches reported over the week. The westerly wind has set in and brought with it some fantastic fishing conditions. The weather has been very good over the Christmas week, which made everything even better.

Day one was off to a brilliant start for Mike. Mike was eager to land a GT on the fly and was fortunate enough to land two GTs measuring 65 cm and 70 cm, Mike also topped his day off with 10 well-sized bonefish. Day two was a brilliant day for a fishing legend Rory. Rory managed to land a Flats Slam consisting of a 38 cm permit, a 60 cm bonefish and a decent sized moustache triggerfish. Mike also landed another GT measuring 81 cm.

Day three was another brilliant day for Rory. Rory managed to land a bonito and a tuna on the fly, this is quite an accomplishment as not many tuna are landed on the fly around Alphonse. Rory also topped his day off with a massive 59 cm permit. Mike teamed up with Alphonse Guide Warren, Mike managed to land his fourth GT in three days giving him a flats hat-trick.

Day five was a great day for  Kelly. Kelly landed his first-ever flats slam consisting of a 38cm Permit, a large bonefish and a 60 cm GT. The bonefishing is as good as ever. Alphonse is lucky enough to be named the best bone fishery on the planet. Anglers managed to land 172 bonefish over the week.

Bluewater fishing has been brilliant over the last week. Nick and Mike tried their hand at landing a sailfish on the fly. Mike was pleasantly surprised after landing two massive sailfish and his son Nick landing a wahoo and sailfish all on the fly. Rory also tried his hand at bluewater fly fishing. Rory landed two wahoo and one massive sailfish on the last day of his trip.

Another fantastic week was spent at Alphonse Island fishing the St Francois Atoll. Memories were made and bonds were formed that will last a lifetime. Stay tuned for next week’s report as we are sure you won’t want to miss it.
