Bighorn River Lodge

Iconic Tailwater Fishing Offering big Biomass and Bigger Trout

The Bighorn River is revered as one of the finest tailwater fisheries in the country, with thousands of brown and rainbow trout per mile. Holding a dense population of 14 to 18-inch trout and ample number up over 20, the “Horn” is a go-to destination for chasing big fish during prolific hatches. The Bighorn River Lodge offers anglers the perfect evening retreat in an iconic Montana lodge structure overlooking the river. Tenured kitchen and lodge staff, seasoned guides, gourmet meals, and room to spread out are just a few of the amenities offered by this magnificent lodge.

Fishing

The Bighorn is an iconic clear bottom-feed tailwater with prolific biomass offering blanket hatches, unmatched hopper fishing, and browns and rainbows always looking up and eager. Certain hatches are so heavy they could drive anglers off the water if it were not for the expansive pods of risers.

Accommodation

Bighorn River Lodge hosts 14 to 16 guests in a waterfront traditional Montana Log lodge complete with fly shop. Anglers enjoy inviting double occupancy rooms and king bedrooms for couples. Heartly meals and river lunches rival any Montana gourmet restaurant are served daily from farm to table.

Gear

Frontiers will provide a thorough list of what to pack. Rods can be provided. There are fly shops close by. We like 4-6-wt. rods (depending on dry vs. nymphing) with floating lines. Be sure to bring quality rain gear, polarized sunglasses, waders, and a hat for sun protection. Dress in layers!

Trip Specifics

The lodge is about a 90-minute drive from the Billings Airport and 3 hours from Bozeman. Typically, anglers book a 4-6 night package. The River and her fish require vast guide knowledge to be successful. Listen to your guide for a successful experience. The lodge offers premium rental gear/tackle and a well-stocked on-property fly shop. Guests drift in McKenzie-style drift boats and wade along the way. The “Horn” is first and foremost a serious trout fishing destination. Non-fishing activities are limited in this region of the state.

Rates
