Strategically located between Europe and the US, Iceland and Deplar offer easy access to otherworldly landscapes without hours of travelling. East coast US and London-based clients can be fishing or skiing on the same day of travel. From moulded seats in the swimming pool especially designed for viewing the northern lights to one of the best equipped spas we have seen in a long time to heli-skiing, salmon and char fishing, hiking...the list goes on. Deplar Farm, set in the stunning Troll hills of north-west Iceland, is a global destination in itself for private individuals or complete parties.
From the lake full of char to the Fljotaa river running out of the lake, Deplar Farm enjoys some superb fishing for salmon, char and trout right on its doorstep. They also have the the Huseyjarkvisl for salmon and trout an hour away and the Holka as a more remote option for bigger salmon.
Deplar is a converted sheep farm, situated in the remote Fljot valley in the mountainous Troll Peninsula in northern Iceland. Today’s modern structure celebrates a rugged past, and honours authentic Icelandic architecture with 13 beautiful ensuite bedrooms, glorious living space and a superb spa.
For trout fishing a 5 wt rod with floating or sink-tip line plus an assortment of streamers, nymphs and dry flies is best. For salmon fishing a single-handed 8 wt rod works well with flies slightly bigger than typical Iceland patterns. Your trout or salmon set up will work for the sea run river char
There are flights from numerous cities from both Europe and the USA to Iceland's international airport Keflavik. There are then a few ways to get to Deplar: by road, a combination of flying and road, private fixed wing or helicopter charter. Deplar is about 4 1/2 to 5 hours from Reykjavik. The lodge can be booked either room by room or as a whole with a vast array of summer or winter activities which can be pre-booked or booked while on site with your Activity Manager. The spa is world class and is inside the lodge itself.
