Goodnews River Lodge

They don’t call it the “Goodnews” River for nothing! Front-page worthy locale

This is the only full-service lodge on the entire 3-branch river system; you will experience the solitude and peaceful beauty of Alaska as it should be. No crowds, no flying to the "best" river. It's all here on the Goodnews River. The 3 forks of the Goodnews River flow out of the Ahklun Mountains and wander through the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge as they make their way to the Bering Sea. There are over 490 miles of fishable streams, braids, creeks and river branches. The Lodge sits on the North Fork of the river right at the upper edge of tidewater just 7 miles from Goodnews Bay.

Fishing

The River boasts outstanding runs of all 5 species of pacific salmon, sea run dollies, resident leopard rainbows and grayling. The Lodge is a fixed camp right on the river just above tidewater. Guests access over 490 miles of river, creeks, braids and sloughs via a fleet of high speed jet boats.

Accommodation

Guests stay in double occupancy elevated Weatherport tent cabins with heat and private bath/shower. A heated drying room to prepare your equipment. Single accommodation is in older double cabins sans en-suite. There is a shower/bathhouse for these cabins. Gourmet meals are served in the dining tent

Gear

Fly: Combo of 6- and 8-wt. fly-rod or a 5- and 7-wt. works well. Conventional: Lightweight rod/reel combo for smaller fish, and a medium-action rod (6-7 ft.) for salmon. The lightweight reel should hold 150 yds. of 6-8 lb. mono. Salmon reels should hold at least 150 yds. of 12-15-lb. mono.

Trip Specifics

Guests fly commercially to Anchorage and overnight at a recommended hotel. Wednesday morning, you will meet the Trans Northern charter flight at Ted Stevens International Airport. The flight departs at 9 a.m.; a 2.5-hour scenic flight lands at the Goodnews Bay airport. There, travelers are met by Lodge staff and taken to waiting boats for the 20-minute ride to the Lodge. Fish the next 6 days from the lodge. On departure day, you should arrive Anchorage by 3 pm. If you plan to depart from Anchorage that evening, we recommend you do not book a flight that leaves before 7 pm.

Rates

$7,995 to $8,995 depending on the week. The season runs June-early September. Roundtrip flight to/from the lodge is $1,350 pp. and Native Land fee of $120 is not included in the price. Unique cast-and-blast option is also available in September.
