Set in 39,000 acres of almost mountainous La Mancha countryside, with over 100 drives, La Cuesta is set up for those seeking the highest of partridges and the most comfortable of accommodation and service. La Cuesta is about 2.5 to 3 hours south of Madrid. This is not a typical Spanish partridge shoot with varying drives of all heights from grouse-like birds to high birds, this is the nirvana for the high bird specialist. La Cuesta is capable of showing a team of guns different drives for their entire stay over two or even three days. La Cuesta delivers an excellent experience throughout.
Many teams of 8 to 10 guns come to shoot La Cuesta and more guns can shoot too. It is also possible to split 14 guns in to two teams and shoot around the estate. Some teams of guns shoot in pairs on a peg, each person shooting half a drive while enjoying watching their friend shoot the other half.
Accommodating up to 14 guns, Finca La Cuesta is a converted estate house upgraded to the highest standard. There are very spacious living areas, a wonderful bar and two huge dining tables, one inside and one out. The large accommodation wing enjoys beautiful views over almost endless valleys.
Neutral coloured shooting attire is best along with appropriate eye and ear protection. Outdoor shoes or boots are best, wellington boots are seldom necessary. Evening wear is generally semi-formal unless your party elects otherwise. We also recommend a shoulder pad and shooting gloves.
A typical trip to La Cuesta begins with arrival in Madrid around lunctime followed by a meet and greet service and gun assistance. The drive is about three hours with a stop along the way. On arrival, guests will be shown to their rooms before dinner and overnight. Guns will be stored in the gun room. Shooting days operate at a relaxed pace with taco after a couple of drives, then perhaps another drive, lunch out in the field, then a further drive before the end of the day. The second day is similar but guests may be asked to vacate their rooms in the morning and will depart after shooting.
Rates are based on number of birds to be shot and is therefore by quotation. They will include meet and greet service, gun assist, transfers, birds, full-board accommodation including drinks, shooting licences and insurance, cartridges, loaders, secretarios and Spanish VAT.
