Mexico offers some really excellent flats fishing and is very accessible to fishers coming from the UK. A direct flight to Cancun and then a vehicle transfer (or sometimes a short internal flight) gives you access to a variety of lodges where you will target permit, bonefish, tarpon and snook in the huge area of Ascension Bay. 

There are many reasons that Mexico is so popular. It is probably the most reliable places to fish if you are hoping for a Grand Slam of permit, tarpon and bonefish. The lodges are very reasonably priced and generally offer very comfortable accommodation and good food. Ascension Bay is a huge area that does not ever feel overcrowded and fishing within the protected Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a real experience with a lot more to see than just the elusive permit.
