Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge

South Andros Island, Bahamas; bonefishing at its best with no pretense!

Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge, the southernmost fishing operation on Andros Island, is located in the small settlement of Mars Bay between Little Creek and Grassy Creek. The lodge sits on the east side of Andros overlooking a pristine flat often teeming with bonefish. It is ideal for small, intact parties of up to 8 anglers; however, it also works well for mixed groups. The overall vibe at the lodge is similar to a casual gathering with good friends. You will find the accommodations clean and modern; the food great, the equipment reliable, the guides excellent, and the beer ice-cold.

Fishing

Bonefishing here takes place by wading with knowledgeable local guides. Schools of 3-5 lb. bones are common, and you'll also find pods of 6-8 pounders along with double-digit sized brutes. Permit and tarpon are occasionally found in the creeks and jacks; snapper and barracuda are routinely sighted.

Accommodation

The waterfront main building offers 3 double-occupancy bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a living room with satellite TV, a dining room and a kitchen. The guest house features 2 double-occupancy bedrooms, each with a private bathroom and living room with satellite TV. All rooms are air-conditioned.

Gear

8-wt. outfits with floating lines are the norm, while 9-wts. provide additional backbone for bigger fish and the occasional permit or barracuda opportunity. Basic bonefish patterns like the Gotcha, Crazy Charlie, Puff and Spawning Shrimp are great, with leader and tippet tapered to 12 lbs.

Trip Specifics

Fly commercially to Nassau via several US gateways. Daily commercial service from Nassau to the Congo Town airport is provided by a few domestic carriers. Flights must arrive into Congo Town during daylight hours. The lodge is just a 25 minute drive from the airport. Flying via private charter out of Ft. Lauderdale can often provide additional fishing time. Please call us for a quote. You must possess a passport valid for 6 months after the last day of your trip. No visa is required for U.S. citizens. Non-fishing activities are very limited.
