This year-round fishery is the Yucatan’s hot spot to find the grand slam species and features the only two-guide-per-boat operation in the area. Having two experienced guides in your boat means that you have two times the vision to spot the fish and the knowledge to catch them. With a laid back “at home” feel to the lodge, it’s easy to relax after a day of chasing fish in the bay.
Ascension Bay is considered by many as the permit fishing capital of the world and the guides at the Palometa Club love to put you in front of this prized quarry. With two experienced guides in your boat you have the best chance of success targeting permit or any of the grand slam species.
The Palometa Club is a beach-front two-story structure featuring 6 air-conditioned bedrooms and 24-hour electricity. Each room has a private bath two double beds with individual air-con control, a ceiling fan, and large spaces and storage for clothing and gear.
A 7- or 8-wt outfit for bonefish, 9-10 wt for permit, tarpon and snook, with saltwater tropical floating line. Flats-style wading shoes/booties are recommended. We send a complete gear list upon confirmation. Frontiers can provide expert advice on finding the right gear for your trip.
The lodge is accessed via Cancun. It’s a 2-hour ride south in an air-conditioned van to the Boca Paila Bridge near Tulum where you will meet your guide who will complete the remaining 55-minute transfer to the lodge by boat through the inside lagoon system. There are limited activities for the non-angler at the lodge but off site excursions can be arranged at an additional cost.
You must possess a passport valid for 6 months after the last day of your trip.
