Fine Trout Fishing in the Pyrenees, Spain

Experience the unspoiled nature of Spain’s Pyrenees where crystal clear waters have some spectacular wild trout. You will have access to more than 60 rivers and 180 lakes all within easy driving distance of the two lodges Salvelinus utilizes, both of which feature comfortable accommodations, delicious Mediterranean cuisine and Spain’s famous Rioja wines. It is the perfect trip for couples blending first-rate fly fishing with Old World charm. Iván Tarín is the Head Guide, a passionate devotee of fly fishing for trout. Iván has built up an efficient guide team, all expert fly fishers.

Fishing

Guests fish a wide range of trout waters found at altitudes from 600’ to 7,200’, including high mountain streams, middle mountain streams and lower reaches, high mountain lakes, and tailwaters where you just might hook the trout of a lifetime. A variety of itineraries are available.

Accommodation

Most of our guests stay at Arén Lodge, a charming traditional hotel in the Pyrenees with superb local cuisine and wines. This property serves as the main Salvelinus base of operations in the eastern Pyrenees and is near the fishing locations in Aragon, Catalonia or the country of Andorra.

Gear

We will provide a thorough packing list. We like 4- to 6-weight rods (depending on the streams you are fishing) with floating lines. Be sure to bring quality raingear, polarized sunglasses, waders and a hat for sun protection. Dress in layers! The guides have some flies and miscellaneous tackle.

Trip Specifics

Clients fly to Barcelona and then transfer to Arén, about three hours outside of the city. The best time to fish is mid-March-early May, and then later in the season mid-September-early November. Species varieties include brown trout, “zebra” trout, rainbow trout and brook trout. It is the perfect trip for couples. Non-anglers can relax and enjoy cultural visits to castles, monasteries and churches, shopping, “vinos y tapas”, nature trails, cultural visits, bird watching, spa, massages and a swimming pool.
