Stella Maris Resort is located on the northern end of Long Island, Bahamas. It is an intimate plantation-style resort that offers a wide range of tropical vacation rentals from single hotel rooms to four-bedroom oceanfront homes. Comfortable accommodations and inclusive island activities make Stella Maris a popular destination for anglers and non-anglers alike. Many savvy travelers classify Long Island as the best of the Bahamas. This southern Bahamas Island is noted for its natural beauty, abundant and quiet beaches, impressive Atlantic shoreline, charming people and overall laid-back vibe.
Long Island bonefish average 2-3 lbs. while trophy size fish of 10 lbs. or more are not uncommon. Spend a day on the water with one of the Bahamas best guides, Docky Smith. He and his staff can typically accommodate 4 anglers. Additional guides can be arranged for a maximum of 8 fishers.
Whether you choose guest rooms, bungalows, cottages, villas or homes, take advantage of bountiful amenities just footsteps from the sea. Stella Maris has accommodations for most any size group. Rooms are tropically furnished with air conditioning, ceiling fans, refrigerators and coffee makers.
8-wt. outfits with floating lines are the norm, while 9-wt. provide additional backbone for bigger fish and the occasional permit or barracuda opportunity. Basic bonefish patterns like the Gotcha, Crazy Charlie, Puff and Spawning Shrimp are great, with leader and tippet tapered to 12 lbs.
Guests fly commercially to Nassau and then utilize the resort’s air service. The roundtrip shared charter service flight is approximately $320 per person. Commercial flights into Nassau should arrive no later than 2 pm and any departure flights from Nassau should be reserved any time after 11:30 am. Major air carries providing flights to Nassau are: Bahamas Air, Jet Blue, American Airlines, Delta, SW, United Airlines, Air Tran, Air Canada, West Jet and British Airways. The Stella Maris Airport is approximately 1/2 mile from the Stella Maris Resort. Taxi fare starts around $10 for 1-2 persons.
