This wilderness lodge is only a short 45-minute flight from Anchorage. This lodge only takes six to eight guests / week and on the banks of a great trout and salmon river, the Talchulitna. What really sets Talaheim apart from other operations is that you access six of seven days of fishing via helicopter, magic carpets which drop into small streams not accessible in any other manner. Nobody fishes these waters, there is nowhere to land a float plane, and they are largely too small to run a jet boat on. These exclusive fisheries are available only to Mark Miller and his Lodge guests.
Their heli’s enable flying into smaller remote access rivers, which is perfect for fly fishermen wanting to cast a 5 wt. to 16-24 inch leopard trout, huge fall char, grayling, or gear up for five species of salmon. Fishing is only 5 - 15 min. flying time from the Lodge.
Cozy and rustic, all cabins offer electricity, refrigeration, indoor plumbing, wood stove or central heating. The Honeymoon Cabin is typically reserved for couples and the larger cabins house families and groups. All cabins are a close walk to the main lodge, yet far enough away to attain privacy.
9/10 wts. for kings, 8 wts. for silvers, 6/7 wts. for rainbows and dollies, and 5 wts. for grayling. The “Tal” has many small tributaries in the upper sections that are accessed to fish for rainbows, dollies and grayling. The diversity of fishing keeps guests’ week interesting.
Trips start Sun. morning and end Sat. evening, for a total of seven days fishing, six nights at the lodge. Talaheim is located mid-way on the Talachulitna River 25 miles from the mouth. There is no through boat traffic due to the rough and rocky lower river. They are not located near any village or town. The only practical way into the area is landing at their private airstrip. Accessing the lodge is an easy 35 min flight from Anchorage. Some people think that because of the close proximity to Anchorage that they are amongst the crowds and it’s quite the opposite.
All-inclusive seven days/six nights: $9,600 per person. A seven-day trip typically includes six days of heli-fishing and one day of exploring local waters by riverboat. Weather permitting, Talaheim offers a two-hour glacier tour and mountain top dining experience. Sun-Sat schedule.
