The waters of the Xingu and Iriri Rivers are impressively clear because they flow on ancient Brazilian shield granite, in contrast to most large Amazon rivers which are laden with sediment. Anglers can target various species using numerous techniques all in the same stretch of river. Anglers access a wide variety of waters, from runs, rapids, deep pools, flats, jungle creeks from custom aluminum skiffs. Most fishing is done via wading. The spectacular rainforest territory of the Kayapo indigenous people in the southeastern Amazon of Brazil provides a protected area on this incredible river.
The “Butire” means the River King in the Kayapo language and is a fly fishing and conventional fishing paradise. Ideal for anglers who want to target large payara with a range of tactics. Additional jungle species include peacock bass, wolf fish, bicuda, matrinchas, red tail catfish, and more.
Guests will be in comfortable rooms with spring box beds, private bathroom, hot water, electricity, and Wi-Fi internet. The camp is located on the bank of the Xingu River looking out over a gorgeous rapid and home pool. Guests will be delighted by Untamed Angling chef’s delicious gourmet cuisine.
5-8 weight single-handed rods are the norm. Guests typically bring various rods. Fly lines designed for the tropics and saltwater are necessary. Leader materials vary from 15-50 lb. Flies from 2-7 inches with 1/0 -3/0 hooks. Full gear list will be sent at booking.
The week at Xingu is from Sun. to Sun. May to Nov. season, 8 guests per week. The Xingu Lodge is the first location dedicated to targeting payara, the elusive and hard-fighting “vampire” fish. A private charter will provide your flight to the lodge from Manaus on Sun. A Native Indian fee of $530 per person will be paid in Manaus to your hosts.
